WHAT’S NEW IN MY SPRING GARDEN?
It is Spring here at the moment and I love being in the garden. The days are getting longer. Flowers are appearing, vegetables are growing and the garden is coming alive with colour and vibrance. It is such a joy to be outside. Taking a walk around, checking out what’s new and finding little surprises of growth and colour hidden beneath other plants. We have still had quite a bit of rain, however the spring garden is definitely enjoying the warmer temperatures.
Yellow courgette/zucchini. Hopefully the first of many to come. I grate them into everything. Such a versatile vegetable. A welcome addition to the spring garden.
Alstroemerias are looking beautiful. I pick a large bunch often to put them into a vase. Just so pretty in the spring garden. Bees love them.
Feijoas are such a classic Kiwi tree. When I grew up everyone had one in their back yard. Feijoas flower in spring. The flower turns into the fruit which is ready to eat in autumn. We eat them fresh, in cakes and on our morning oats. Feijoas have quite a fragrant flavour. People seem to either love them or hate them. They are easy to freeze and use later. Just cut, scoop out, bag and freeze. The flesh does go slightly brown once thawed out, but tastes just as good as fresh.
We also have roses, lupins, calendulas, hydranges and various other flowering plants. The vegetable beds are going great guns, but that will be saved for another post.
Take care
