Two Ideas how to Upcycle Gifted Fabric
A friend of mine gifted me a box of fabric that she had been given by another friend who was no longer sewing.
It was an array of different sorts of fabric. There were samples of upholstery, cotton, lace, fleece, stretch ribbing and some pretty floral polyester.
As soon as I saw the pretty floral piece I knew what I was going to make with it!

I love this top and have made it a couple of times previously. I had everything I needed. Fabric, stretch ribbing, and sewing machine at the ready. I’m still debating whether to add pink stretch ribbing to the sleeves to tie it in with the neckline. I think it might look better. What do you think?
Kingfisher Top
It’s a quick, easy to follow pattern that suits beginner sewers. It can be made with all sorts of fabric so very versatile. The Kingfisher top can be made in short or long sleeve. So many different variations can be made with this pattern.
Not usually fond of wearing polyester fabric as I prefer natural fibres. It can be it sticky and uncomfortable in summer, especially in our humidity we get here.
The added frill using the main fabric was added as I had to join two pieces together down the middle front. But that’s what you get with scrap fabric. Right? Improvise, Improvise Improvise!!!
Today was a wet day with heavy showers inbetween blue, sunny skies, it was a great day to sew. A slow relaxed afternoon spent sewing.
Cushions using upcycled gifted fabric
So I also made some new cushion covers with the upholstery samples that were part of the gifted fabric. I made them up using the simple envelope technique. So no zips required!
Cushions
Love the green against the white. It’s so fresh for a summer look in the spare bedroom. These cushion covers are very quick and simple to make. Very suitable for beginners and can be whipped up in an hour or two.
On the reverse I used calico for two cushions and a linen type fabric for the third.
All fabric was free and I already had the cushion inners. Win Win!!
So pleased with my new free makes.
Take care
